A UAE bank account — not a form, a story.
Banks rarely decline for missing paperwork. They decline because the story does not add up: activity, source of funds, substance, client base.
A UAE corporate account typically takes two to six weeks after filing, a personal account one to two weeks. It requires an Emirates ID, a valid licence and a KYC file evidencing activity, clients and source of funds. As of 09/2026.
KYC ("know your customer") is the legally required review by which a bank verifies a client’s identity, business activity and source of funds — in the UAE the real bottleneck when opening an account.

The five most common reasons for rejection
From our practice, in this order.
1 — Activity and clients do not match
A general trading licence but invoices to consulting clients in Germany: the bank sees a contradiction and does not ask, it declines.
2 — No visible substance
Cheap zone, flexi-desk, no staff, no local nexus. Formally permissible, still a risk for the compliance department.
3 — Source of funds unclear
Depositing AED 500,000 means showing where it came from: sale proceeds, salary, dividend, inheritance — with evidence, not explanations.
4 — High-risk countries in the model
Clients or suppliers in sanctioned or high-risk jurisdictions almost always lead to rejection, however good the file.
5 — Incomplete or contradictory documents
Diverging addresses, expired documents, missing legalisations. Every follow-up costs weeks and lowers the success rate.
And the silent reason
Some banks simply no longer accept certain free zones or activities. That is written nowhere — you either know it or you find out after six weeks.
The right sequence
Personal before corporate. Reversing that costs time.
Wait for the Emirates ID
No Emirates ID, no personal account — and in practice no solid corporate process either. It is the starting point.
Open the personal account
Faster, simpler, and it creates a banking relationship. Salary and rent payments run through it.
Build the corporate KYC file
Licence, MOA, establishment card, evidence of trading: contracts, invoices, website, client list, origin of the starting capital.
Select the bank, do not just apply
We know which bank currently accepts which zone and which activity. That matters more than the polish of the documents.
Appointment, review, activation
In-person appointment, compliance review, then activation and online banking. Typically two to six weeks, occasionally longer.
Checklist: what belongs in the KYC file
- Trade licence, memorandum of association and establishment card, all current
- Passport, Emirates ID and visa for every shareholder and authorised signatory
- Proof of address in the UAE (Ejari or tenancy contract) and in your home country
- A one-paragraph description of the business — clear, without marketing
- Three to five reference contracts or invoices, ideally from the predecessor business
- Proof of source of funds: bank statements, sale agreements, tax assessments
- Expected monthly turnover, number of transactions, main client countries
- CVs of the shareholders — more relevant to compliance teams than most expect
What we handle — and how long it takes
| Service | What it covers | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| Corporate account | building the KYC file, selecting the bank, booking the appointment, follow-ups | 2–6 weeks |
| Personal account | reviewing documents, booking the appointment, support | 1–2 weeks |
| Second bank attempt after a rejection | analysing the reason, improving the file, changing bank | additional 2–4 weeks |
As of 09/2026. Minimum balances and account fees are set by the bank, not by us. What our support costs comes through the first estimate or the first call.
Which bank suits whom
Local majors offer good conditions and branch networks but review strictly and decline small free zone companies more often.
International houses are more comfortable with cross-border structures but require higher average balances.
Digital providers and payment institutions open quickly but do not replace a bank account when it comes to credit lines, letters of credit or payroll.
We do not recommend a bank because it pays us a commission. We recommend the one that currently accepts your structure — and tell you when we would prepare a second option in parallel.

Frequently asked questions
How long does opening a UAE account take?
A personal account is usually active within one to two weeks. A corporate account typically takes two to six weeks after filing, depending on bank, activity and completeness of the KYC file.
Do I need a residence visa for an account?
For a regular personal account yes — it depends on the Emirates ID. Non-residents can obtain limited accounts at some banks, without salary function and with higher minimum balances.
What does the support cost?
It covers building the KYC file, bank selection, appointment scheduling and follow-ups. We give you the price in the first call, binding in the quote. The bank sets its own fees, not we.
Is there a minimum deposit?
That is set by the bank. Average balances between AED 0 and 50,000 are common; falling below triggers fees.
What is the most common mistake?
Applying too early. Walking into an appointment without an Emirates ID, without evidenced activity and without proof of funds earns a rejection — and makes the second application harder.
Can I open the account from Germany?
Usually not. Banks require an in-person appointment and the Emirates ID. Preparation can happen remotely, completion cannot.
What happens after a rejection?
We analyse the reason, improve the file and change bank. Importantly, do not file blindly with several institutions at once — it gets noticed.
Can I get the KYC checklist in advance?
Yes, as a PDF. It lists every document we usually request and the questions banks insist on in the appointment.
Which bank takes your structure — and with which file?
We review activity, substance and source of funds before the first appointment is booked. 15 minutes, free of charge.
